Summary
This rhyming picture book helps children ask and answer the question, what makes you, you? It addresses common qualifiers like what you do, what you like, what people say about you, your feelings, and how you look, but points out that those things don’t define who you are.
“It’s this: you’re made by our Creator God.
Designed by him, you’re loved and have great worth.
You’re made like him, to show what he is like,
to spread his love and grace throughout the earth.”
There is then a brief Gospel presentation and an explanation that those who trust in Christ are washed of their sin and then children of God.
Mom Thoughts
This “little book about identity” packs big truths about who we are and what really matters. I love that the author acknowledges we have qualities that make us unique, but those qualities are not our true identity. I also appreciate the clear difference between being made in God’s image and being a child of God. Theology matters, even when our children are small, and these terms are often incorrectly used interchangeably. This book affirms the Biblical definitions of these terms.
The illustrations are fun, playful, and likely resonate most with children ages 3-7. This would be a wonderful addition to a home library. Also, this would be a perfect choice if your public library takes patron requests. I highly recommend this book.
