Summary
This brief workbook-style title follows the thought process of a young boy. When he is thinking about things he enjoys he feels relaxed and is at a “1.” When things in his schedule change, his stomach can begin to hurt and he is at a “4.” When he feels this way, he has some methods to calm himself back down to a “1” again: squeezing his hands together, breathing in and out slowly, closing his eyes, and thinking about pleasant things. The book has several pages for the child to draw pictures or write words.
Mom Thoughts
This book is very practical for children who struggle with their emotions feeling uncontrollable or overwhelming. It is short and to the point, but gives direct instructions for what a child can do in those situations where they need to calm themself down. This is a secular book, so there is no mention of sin or allowing Christ to carry our burdens, but for help with self-regulating, this could prove helpful.
