Summary

Written in rhyme, this book talks about how God made you unique and when you use the gifts and talents God gave you, you are making God’s dream come true.

Mom Thoughts

This book is really about the stunning illustrations. David Catrow, who also illustrated “Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon” has a distinctive, slightly fantastical style. He fears no use of color.

The text has a lovely sentiment, that you are the one and only you God ever created and so he wants you to thrive in whatever He has made you to do. While I’m sure the author wasn’t attempting to push big theological ideas on children, there are a couple of lines that give me pause.

“-yes YOU, in all of your glory, bring color and rhythm and rhyme to God’s story.” Using glory to describe anything human, especially unattached from Christ, makes me a bit uncomfortable. Another line says, “God dreams about all that in you will be true.” While I doubt the author meant to imply that God doesn’t know the future, it seems odd to talk about God dreaming about someone when He’s omniscient.

A similar line says, “You being you is God’s dream coming true.” Again, not sure that the author meant to imply God isn’t all-powerful, but it seems odd phrasing for a God that’s omnipotent.

Overall, this is a beautiful book, and some might say I’m being too critical, just be aware of those couple head-scratchers.
