Summary

This tells a brief history of Johann Gutenberg and how he came to make the printing press that would change the world. While much of Gutenberg’s life isn’t recorded, this tells what we do know about his early life and his work of building the press that would print the Bible. It also discusses early translations of the Bible and the problems with them and well as connecting the availability of scripture to the Reformation.

Mom Thoughts

This book is part of a new series that is basically the Christian response to the wildly popular Who HQ series. This tells us about Gutenberg’s life without removing the harder-to-swallow topics, like printing indulgences for the Roman Catholic Church. The book expands on the history of printed scripture more than the title gives it credit for, including Jerome and William Tyndale. The author also does a good job of showing how God used these events in history for His glory. The content may feel a bit slower and denser than the other two books in the series, but it is still an excellent resource.
