Summary

This book is like the “Choose Your Own Adventure” series but in picture book form. You follow Danny throughout the day and get to make choices for him: should he eat breakfast off of a plate he doesn’t like or yell until he gets his way? Should he wait for his brother to finish playing a video game or gran the controller out of his brother’s hand? Should he ask his mom for a snack or sneak some chocolate from the pantry? Each choice made leads to a different outcome with several different possible endings to the story.

Mom Thoughts

This interactive book is a fun way for children to “experience” the reality of making good and poor choices and the natural consequences that come with either choice. It is an easy cause and effect for children to see and can help reinforce that our children’s actions matter.  That being said, it is a secular title and because of that is teaching moralism. We absolutely want our children to be moral people, don’t get me wrong, but without the gospel, the “why” behind why we make “good” choices is so that things go well for me.

After reading this book with your child, I would absolutely have a conversation about why we do the things we do. Should I share with my sibling because mom might give me a reward or because Christ calls me to put myself last? If used in conjunction with a conversation, this book could be helpful to reinforce the responsibility of actions for children.
