What Happens When I Talk to God? by Stormie Omartian

God wants me to talk to Him all the time. Prayer is one way I get to know God better. Another way is reading the Bible. I should thank God for all the good things He has given me like family, friends, animals, clouds, and food. I can talk to God about anything, good things, and bad things. No matter where I am, God hears me.

It doesn’t matter when during the day, I can talk to God anytime. God can hear me when I pray out loud and also when I pray silently in my mind. I can pray long prayers or short prayers and I can pray by myself or with others. God wants me to say sorry when I do something wrong and He promises to always forgive me. I can pray in Jesus’ name like Jesus told his followers to do. I have to be patient and trust God to answer my prayers.

This is a good picture book for young children to understand some basics about prayer. I appreciate her emphasis that you can pray anywhere and at any time as well as out loud or silently. While she does talk about God being our friend, which is absolutely true, she doesn’t speak on God’s holiness and approaching Him as such. Not a deal-breaker by any means, but something to be aware of.
