Mom Thoughts

This beautiful workbook is thoughtfully crafted with two goals in mind: to teach your 4-12-year-old the very basics of theology and in doing so to know God personally and love Him as a result. I absolutely love that children’s intelligence is not insulted by using terms and ideas that adults use as well, such as theology, sanctification, the mystery of the Trinity, and more. There is a fine balance between overwhelming children with new ideas and vocabulary and underwhelming them with not enough theological “meat,” and Tiny Theologians finds the sweet spot.

Although this is a workbook, much of it reads like a resource book, and I would recommend hanging on to this well after your child has completed it for future reference. The reality of sin and how it affects every person isn’t glossed over or softened; they do an excellent job of sharing the bad news first, but follow it quickly by the good news of the Gospel. (Although it’s sparing, the language does sound affirming of unlimited atonement.)

“Here’s the good news: God kept his promise! He sent the Savior, and his name is Jesus. Jesus is the Savior who died in our place and overcame sin and death so that you and I and every person ever born could be made right with God. Jesus is the Savior that the whole world needs- he is the good news that we’ve all been longing to hear ever since Adam and Eve left the garden!”

The hinting at unlimited atonement was the only theological leaning with which I didn’t agree, but some other solid theological standings that are affirmed are Original Sin and salvation by grace through faith. Overall, I think this is a practical, Biblical, useful resource and I highly recommend it!
