The Thanksgiving Story by Alice Dalgliesh

This book follows the true story of the Hopkins family from a harbor in Southampton aboard the Mayflower, their journey across the ocean, arriving at Plymouth, surviving the winter, building homes, meeting friendly Native Americans, to the very first Thanksgiving.

This brief but well-thought-out retelling of the Pilgrims will convey a lot of information in a short amount of time. The author does a lovely job of making this feel like a story instead of a historical narrative. This is quite long for a picture book, so think of it instead as a very short chapter book. I highly recommend this for your Thanksgiving reading!
