The Promise of Life: A Big Story about God’s Law by Jonny Atkinson

This book is divided into 8 small “parts” or chapters. They are entitled: Life with God, The Promise of God, The Loss of Life, The Witness to Life, The Gift of Life, The Christian Life, The Future Life, and Your Life. Each successive section works its way chronologically through the Bible showing how God used His law at each point for his purposes.

I am so excited about this book. I wasn’t sure what a picture book about God’s law would hold, but not only is it beautiful and scripture filled, it takes an often misunderstood subject and makes it crystal clear. Sometimes children’s books are so well written and effective that I recommend adults read them too. This is just one of those books.

The artwork is free feeling with soft lines and areas of seeming “sketch-like.” It’s a rather unique style that I happen to love. Lots of thought has been put into each illustration to contain even more biblical thoughts than the text. There is also a beautifully clear presentation of the gospel. I highly recommend this book for your family!
