Summary
A little boy observes with his dad that the moon doesn’t always look round, but it always is. Then he learns that he is going to have a baby sister and watches the moon change as they wait for her. Then he finds out that after all that waiting, the baby won’t be coming home with them and he wonders if the moon will still be round. They leave the hospital without the baby and he asks his dad why. His dad answers, “I don’t know why. But the moon is always round.” Even when they went to the church to say goodbye to their baby, he knows that the moon is always round. When his dad asks what that means, he answers, “God is always good.” It ends with Psalm 100:5.
Mom Thoughts
I don’t know if I have ever cried so much reading a children’s book. This is heart-wrenchingly beautiful, simple, and clearly points to the truth that God is always good, even when our worst fears happen. There is more information in the back of the book for parents/caregivers including the true story behind this book. I am thankful the author was able to use such an incredibly hard and painful experience and use it in such a God-glorifying and helpful way. If there is a child in your life dealing with death, I couldn’t recommend this book more.
