Summary

A man moves to town and buys an old building. As he is cleaning things up, a young girl, Lucy, wanders into his shop. He enlists her help and she realizes that he is opening a candy shop. While unpacking the candy, Lucy finds a kind of candy she has never seen before: a candy cane. The man explains that the candy cane represents a “J” for Jesus and a shepherd’s staff. He also explains that the red represents the blood Jesus spilled for us and the white represents how our sin is washed clean when we give our lives to Christ. Lucy and the man hand out candy canes and people celebrated for the greatest gift that Jesus gave them.

Mom Thoughts

This sweet book tells a lovely story about this popular Christmas candy. Your children will likely enjoy the illustrations filled with sweets, but also hearing the story behind a candy with which they are likely familiar. Hopefully, they will never look at a candy cane the same way again!

Note: There is only one depiction of baby Jesus in this book.
