Summary
In the second book of “The Last Firehawk” series Tag, Skyler, and Blaze find themselves at the Crystal Caverns. They discover a group of seals living just outside the caverns. The seals tell them that they should not go in because one of their seals went in and never came out.
Knowing they need to find the next piece of the Ember Stone, Blaze leads the way into the largest cavern. With mirror-like walls the friends become turned around until they hear a screeching sound. They follow the sound and find the lost seal, Coralie. She sees their part of the Ember Stone and knows where to find the next piece. She brings them to a hidden cave and Blaze uses her firepower to melt the ice around the stone so Tag can retrieve it.
As they are trying to leave the cave, two ice leopards, Thorn’s spies, traps them. They are able to melt the ice wall behind them with the Ember Stone and climb out through the back. The leopards follow them but Blaze uses her powerful cry to shatter the ice leopard’s teeth and they run away. Placing the now larger Ember Stone on top of their map, they know the next part of their quest will lead them to the Whispering Oak.
Mom Thoughts
The formula for book number two follows very closely from book number one. Lots of heroics, excitement, meeting new allies, and running into Thorn’s spies. A fun and exciting read for kids ages 8 to 12 with no issues in with language or questionable behaviors, if you are okay with magic themes.
