Summary

Written in rhyme, this picture book tells the story of King Ira, a king with no self-control. His actions lead to the destruction of his kingdom’s wall, at which point he realizes he needs help. He seeks out Lady Wisdom who shares the Gospel with King Ira, who confesses his sin to Jesus, repents, and believes in Christ. After this, King Ira exercises self-control and helps rebuild his kingdom’s wall.

Mom Thoughts

Inspired by Proverbs 25:28, this picture book tackles a subject that so few children’s books do and does it well. While the focus of the book is self-control, the heart of it is the Gospel and how only it can truly transform. We see a clear before and after of King Ira, as well as his understanding and submission after his conversation with Lady Wisdom. The illustrations are lighthearted and fun. Although the rhyme doesn’t stick to a meter, it is a very fun and enjoyable read. This is a fantastic addition to your home library!

Note: There is a partial depiction of Christ: we see the back of His throne along with his arm and a bit of His hair. See picture.
