Summary

This devotional-esqe resource book can either be read aloud by an adult to children or given to older children to read independently. It has 24 very short chapters which are divided into eight sections:

  1. God’s Person and Worth
  2. God’s Pronouncement on Sinners
  3. Jesus’ Birth and Childhood
  4. Jesus’ Messianic Ministry
  5. Jesus’ Crucifixion
  6. Jesus’ Resurrection, Ascension, and Exaltation
  7. King Jesus’ Call to Sinners
  8. Evidence of a Right Relationship with the King

There are scripture references at the end of each chapter, as well as a glossary and an appendix at the back of the book.

This is best suited to read aloud for children 6+ and as an independent read for children 9+.

Mom Thoughts

I’m not going to hide my feelings, this is my new favorite resource to recommend. I cannot say enough good things about it, but I will try. The language used is filled with robust and rich theology without insulting children’s intelligence, while at the same time being accessible and approachable to a theological novice.

“When the Son of God became a man, He remained fully God. He did not lose any of His deity. Instead, He added humanity to His deity and become the God-man. Some of His divine glory was hidden by the veil of human flesh, but it was all still there. As the God-man, He was the only qualified descendant of Adam who could save sinners.”

This is one of those few titles that is so expertly crafted, so thoughtfully formed, I recommend it for adults too. If you feel intimidated by theology and do not know where to begin, this resource is a fantastic starting point. While scripture is always sufficient, what a blessing it is to have a resource to walk you through the Gospel so understandably with your children. If I couldn’t sing its praises anymore, it comes with endorsements from Dr. Joel R. Beeke and Paul Washer. I give it my highest recommendation possible.
