Summary

Written in rhyme, this picture book recounts the story of Jesus walking with two of his disciples on the road to Emmas found in the Gospel of Luke.

Mom Thoughts

This is such a lovely book that represents Scripture accurately. The illustrations are realistic but softened and drawn with a warm color pallet. Although this may be read during Eastertime, it’s truly a wonderful read for any time of the year.

“The friends set off, the traveller walking with them on the way. They walked and talked and talked and walked throughout the ebbing day. He may have been a stranger, but his words left them amazed, “You haven’t read? The Christ,” he said, “must suffer then be raised.”

The one page that might be confusing for a young child comes at the end of the book and shows a young boy in modern clothes physically interacting with Jesus. The goal is to affirm that Jesus is alive today and that we can have a personal relationship with him, but the illustrations of a boy riding on Jesus’ shoulders and holding His hand might need some explanation for younger children.

Overall, this is an enjoyable and fun-to-read title that has the Gospel at its heart.
