The Courageous Series by The Voice of the Martyrs with Cheryl Odden

This six-book set includes a biographical picture book of each of the following men: Stephen, Thomas, Paul, (St.) Patrick, (St.) Valentine, and (St.) Nicholas.

This box set from The Voice of the Martyrs has the goal of telling the amazing, but difficult lives of six outstanding men of faith who sacrificed their lives for Christ. These books don’t shy away from the brutal realities these men faced, which is sometimes also depicted in the illustrations. The illustrator’s style is a bit unique, and honestly not my favorite-especially the way Jesus is portrayed- but the heart of these books is to encourage young readers that although living the life of a Christian may not always be easy or even safe, it is always worth it.

I most appreciated the three volumes of the men that claim holidays after themselves. Although they do use a lot of tradition that isn’t verified, these books give children a much better idea of why we have days celebrating these men. Also, purchasing this set supports The Voice of the Martyrs organization. Although intense at times, these could be excellent resources for your family.
