Summary
Written in rhyme, this tells of a boy whose feelings seem extra big. He not only feels his emotions, but when others have big feelings, he feels them as well. He finds a friend at school who shares her big feelings and they both begin to notice that all kids have big emotions sometimes.
Mom Thoughts
This is a secular title with the purpose of teaching children that sharing their emotions is okay and healthy. I appreciate how the author highlights both enjoyable and unpleasant emotions as feeling big and sometimes all-encompassing. This could be a helpful tool for a child who struggles with sharing their emotions or seeing the unpleasant ones as “bad.”
Because this is not through the lens of the Gospel, there isn’t any mention of sin. This can be problematic when it comes to the page about anger, because the boy in the book is not showing self-control with his anger, which obviously will happen to our children, but it is not addressed Biblically. A conversation about self-control and Ephesians 4:26 might be helpful after this book.
