This book has 10 untitled chapters, but they cover the following stories: Adam and Eve, Noah and the Tower of Babel, Abraham through Judah, the Exodus, 10 Commandments and sin that followed, Kings of Israel to captivity, Birth of Jesus, Jesus’s Death, the Resurrection and Holy Spirit, and Looking Forward to Eternity.

Mom Thoughts

This unique storybook isn’t exactly a story Bible, but not exactly a picture book. Its purpose is to connect all of the stories in the Bible together, to show how Old Testament prophecies point to Christ, the only one who could be our Savior. Because of this focused purpose and audience, it is much shorter in length. It often uses the term “snake crusher” to refer to Jesus and to show that Christ is where all of scripture is pointing. The illustrations by Don Clark are very modern, stylized, and worthy of hanging in a gallery.

There are a couple of phrases that I wish were worded differently. The author states that after the fall, God put a curse on Adam, Eve, and the snake. I would argue that scripture says God cursed the snake and the ground and punishes Adam and Eve. Other quotes that might be interpreted wrongly are “Things got so bad so fast that God decided to start over,” and “God was going to start over with His creation…God was going to start over with a new world, and Noah was going to be a new kind of Adam.” Some might argue that this sounds like God got it wrong the first time, although I do not believe that was the author’s intent.

Overall, I think this is a lovely book to help show your children the big, zoomed-out story of God and His plan of redemption.
