Over in a Stable by Suzanne Nelson

This is a loose retelling of the Christmas story and uses numbers to count up throughout the story. One drummer boy, two mother’s arms, three wise men, etc.

Although this book takes a couple of liberties- adding the drummer boy and the Wise Men at the stable- it is still a sweet addition to your Christmas book list. The illustrations are colorful and cozy while using appropriate skin tones and a diverse cast of characters. The repetition of text is helpful and engaging for younger children. Simple and sweet!
