Summary
Written in rhyme, a small donkey carries Mary to Bethlehem. Although he seems insignificant, he does his job well and then rejoices at the birth of Jesus.
Mom Thoughts
This adorable board book is a very quick read meant for children 5 and under. The illustration style is a bit cartoony, but the sweet rhyme from the donkey’s perspective is endearing. The very last line of the book reads, “Welcomes Christ, our peace on earth.”
Although this is innocent enough, some might argue that it directly conflicts with Matthew 10:34, “Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” However, some could argue this line is pointing to Christ as earth’s way to have peace with God. Am I reading too much into one line of a toddler book? I’ll leave that up to you, but overall I do think this is a nice read for Christmas.
