Summary

Mouse and Mole, who live in different parts of the same tree, become best friends in this easy-reader series.

Mom Thoughts

Mouse and Mole are both very loveable characters who often display traits of self-sacrifice and kindness. While their silly antics will make your child smile, I only recommend three of the seven books in the series. Of the three I recommend, do be aware that in Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole, there is mention of a rain dance, although it is in passing and not performed.

Here are the titles I do not recommend:

Mouse and Mole: A Perfect Halloween

Mouse and Mole: Secret Valentine

A Brand-New Day with Mouse and Mole. Throughout this series, Mouse and Mole (a girl and a boy) wear clothes like people. In this book, their clothes become wet, so they take them off and then go swimming together. I know these are animals, but I found it odd that they use the “rules” of clothes…until they don’t want to. Maybe that’s reading too much into it. These are my personal feelings.

Abracadabra! Magic with Mouse and Mole. Mole becomes enamored with magic tricks but becomes disheartened when he finds out it’s not real magic. Mouse encourages him that there is “real” magic by pointing out things like butterflies and tadpoles. Attributing God’s creativity and brilliance to “real magic” (although I know what they meant) isn’t wording that I love.

The three linked below are sweet, silly, fun, and perfect titles for a newly independent reader.

Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole

Mouse and Mole: Fine-Feathered Friends

Mouse and Mole: A Winter Wonderland
