Summary

This small booklet is actually a stand-alone chapter taken from the Growing Up God’s Way books. It tackles the who, when, and why of Biblical marriage.

Ages: 10-14 years

Mom Thoughts

This brief booklet has the goal of teaching tweens/early teens the basics of Biblical marriage. It is only an overview, however, and does not cover anything in depth. Some things it addresses are God’s design for marriage, the seriousness of marriage vows, the differing roles of a husband and wife, and how the status of marriage does not change depending on our feelings.

It briefly mentions that a husband and wife “unite their bodies in special physical closeness,” although never uses the word “sex.” When speaking of the purposes of marriage, it covers loving, caring, and supporting each other and having children.

I do wish in the “Purpose of Marriage” section that it addressed marriage being modeled after Christ and the Church, but this is not mentioned. Overall, this is a good introduction to the subject, although much more explanation is needed in each area. This could be a good introductory resource for a youth small group or with children ready to have these conversations.
