Mom Thoughts

This brief graphic novel vividly brings to life Katie Luther’s story for elementary-aged children and above. It is always a humbling reminder of how difficult life was for most of human history. This retelling doesn’t shy away from the hard topics in her life: secretly leaving a convent; having her heart broken by a suitor; marrying Luther although it was not initially for love; the death of her mother, two of her children, and her husband; the Black Plague; surviving after Luther’s death; and more. Although her life was one of struggle and hardship, she lived her life for the glory of God and this is a wonderful story for which our children should be familiar.

Things to Know: Because this book accurately represents the Luthers, their children’s infant baptism as well as the belief that their deceased young child’s sins were forgiven are mentioned.
