Summary
Itsy and Bitsy are brother and sister mice who live in Bethlehem. They meet a donkey who tells them a king is coming to Bethlehem. They are so excited, they run back to the stable they live in to tell the animals. The animals don’t believe a king would ever come to a commonplace like Bethlehem. Itsy and Bitsy don’t agree and run out in the city to find the king.
They search the city gate, where leaders make decisions. No king. They ask the camels because kings ride on camels. No king. They check the street, hotels, and the city market. No king. They come to the conclusion that no king is coming because they aren’t important enough. When they arrive back at the stable, they see the donkey they met at the beginning who shows them the king, in their manger. The other animals apologize and are amazed that Jesus came to them. Itsy and Bitsy rejoice!
Mom Thoughts
This is one of my favorite Christmas picture book. Between the adorable illustrations and understandable yet resonant truth about Christ coming to earth for the least of us, this is sure to be a family favorite. I highly recommend this book!
