Summary

This picture book celebrates the wonderful gift of being a girl and how God made women special helpers. It uses examples from Scripture of women of God like Miriam, Deborah, Abigail, Esther, Mary, Martha, Lydia, Priscilla, and Eunice. It also points girls to reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. It also highlights that girls can do many things (like being a scientist, a mommy, a missionary) and do them for the Lord.

Mom Thoughts

This is a lovely picture book that truly rejoices in the blessing it is to be a girl. The illustrations are whimsical and lighthearted and the repeated refrain chimes, “Let’s thank our God, rejoice and twirl, Because it’s good to be a girl!” With all of the unbiblical messages of which the world is trying to convince our girls, this sweet book reaffirms Biblical womanhood as a beautiful gift. Overall, I think this is a lovely and helpful resource for families.

Things to know:

There is an illustration of Jesus.
It is said that “Deborah ruled her people with fairness.” In reality, Deborah didn’t rule in the sense of royalty or a queen, but rather she was a judge. A more accurate sentence would have been, “Deborah judged her people with fairness.”
