Summary
This picture book follows a dad and son through a fall day. At the beginning of the book, the son asks his father if God is real. The dad uses the illustration of a kite being moved by the wind to help his son understand that although we cannot see God, we see He is real through creation (general revelation) and His Word (special revelation).
Mom Thoughts
This beautiful picture book is a lovely introductory apologetics title for children. The illustrations are full of movement and color and two special fold-out pages add a nice interactive element. The text creates a realistic situation of a son asking questions because of what he has heard from other children, so it’s very relatable, however, they also make the text memorable by adding lines of rhyme sprinkled here and there.
“God is invisible, but He is real.
Before Him only, we worship and kneel.
He is eternal-no beginning or end.
He is almighty but also our friend.”
While there is a basic Gospel presentation, I specifically wish the above text gave a qualifier: that God is a friend to His children. Between the book ending with Hebrews 11:6 and the parent note at the end more clearly stating that salvation is through faith in Christ alone, it is apparent the author had a Biblical view of God has a friend, despite how it was communicated.
Overall, I think this is a lovely book that could spark meaningful conversation with the children in your life.
