Summary
“I Am: 40 Reasons to Trust God” is a Story Bible that focuses on the names of God. Each section begins with one of God’s names and the story that follows shows how He fulfills that name. After the story, there is a “What Does It Mean” section, which is a short devotional. Following this, there is a prayer as well as a “Learn More” box with additional verses to support the names of God. It ends with a brief “What Happened Next” section which leads you into the next story.
Some of the names of God used are: Creator (Elohim), God All-Powerful (El Shaddai), The Lord My Rock (Jehovah Tsuri), God Who Saves (El Moshaah), The Lord Will Provide (Jehovah Jireh), The Lord is Peace (Jehovah Shalom), Jealous God (El Kanna), God With Us (Immanuel), Bread of Life, Good Shepherd, Christ (Messiah), and so many more!
Mom Thoughts
There are countless Story Bibles. So what makes this one special? I love the focus on God’s names and how His Word supports each one. I certainly don’t spend enough time talking about the names of God with my children, but each one is a wonderful promise that shows the truth about the LORD and his character.
You also get a couple of Bible stories that are generally not included in Story Bibles: From 1 Samuel, the story of when the Philistines captured and then return the Ark of the Covenant; from 2 Kings, the story of when God revealed the army of angels protecting Elisha; from Matthew, Mark, and Luke, the story of when Jesus stays behind his family at the temple; from Luke, the story of Mary choosing to sit at Jesus’ feet, and more.
