Summary

Halle the hedgehog has a friend, Freya, who is a frog. Halle has another friend, Maddie, who doesn’t like frogs. When Freya tries to sit with Halle and Maddie at lunch, Maddie tells Freya the seats are taken. Halle doesn’t stick up for Freya and says she’ll catch up with her later. Maddie says some unkind things about Freya and Halle joins in. Mr. Owl overhears Halle and talks with her about what she has said.

Halle also talks with her parents about what happened and her father gives her Proverbs 29:25 to keep in her pocket. When she returns to school the next day, she tells Freya there is room for everyone at their table. Very upset, Maddie walks off to sit somewhere else. Then, Maddie’s cupcake accidentally lands on her head. Halle helps Maddie and Maddie changes her mind about sitting with Freya.

Mom Thoughts

This series is so thoughtfully written. It effectively uses real-life situations that children could actually encounter and speak the truth through those difficult moments. Wanting to fit in is such a real feeling for our children (and us!) and this beautiful picture book gives scripture and practical advice to help kids think through their actions.

This is a bit of a longer picture book, but worth every moment. I highly recommend this book for your family!
