Summary
Haggis is bored. Tank is not bored because she is reading a book about pirates. She convinces Haggis to play pirates with her. Tank becomes “Bootleg Bonnie” and Haggis becomes “Captain Scurvy”.
They prepare for their first adventure by practicing pirate things, like using “Aye, aye” and tying knots. Then, they sail off to find treasure. As luck would have it, they find a treasure map in a bottle! They sail to an island and dig for treasure, but find nothing.
Disappointed, they start to sail home, but the wind dies, so they are stranded. Then a sea monster emerges from the water and terrifies Haggis.
He jumps into the water, but can’t swim. Tank and the sea monster rescue Haggis and the sea monster pulls them home. They are very happy to be home in time for a real treasure- lunch!

This hilarious and exciting early reader is a wonderful first novel for young readers. The author is skilled in using homophones in a humorous way that helps children understand the difference between the words. “Haggis and Tank” is filled with adventure, humor, and fantastic illustrations. Adults will enjoy reading this along with the child.
There are also comprehension questions at the back of the book to make sure your child is remembering and understanding what they read. This is a great tool for early readers. I highly recommend this book for your family!
