Summary
God made the universe and filled it with His creation. God made plants and animals able to reproduce, which means living things that are able to make more things like themselves. Flowers reproduce by pollen being transferred from one flower to another’s pistil. It also takes two animals to make babies. Snakes lay eggs. Bears have their babies grow inside of them. It takes two people to make a baby, a mom and a dad. A baby grows inside the mom’s womb for about nine months. When the baby is ready to be born, the mom’s body lets the baby out. Only grown-ups can make a baby.
Mom Thoughts
This is a tough subject to tackle at an age-appropriate level, but overall the authors did a good job. This is a book that could be very helpful for some families, but may not be the right fit for others- it’s not one I’d recommend across the board. However, if you are looking for something to help you navigate the questions that your young child continues to ask, this is a very solid resource.
They do use the proper term for body parts (with which I completely agree) including uterus, womb, and vagina, but do also name sperm and egg. The sentence that uses these reads, “A sperm from the dad and an egg from the mom join together in the mom’s body.” Also, one of the sentences about birth reads, “…the muscles in the uterus gently push the baby out through the vagina.”
Depending on the child, this book might raise more questions than answers, namely “How do they put the sperm and egg inside the mommy,” but if you are looking for something that addresses “Where do babies come from” head-on, and you are comfortable with the amount of information given, this book is Biblically solid.
