Gary’s Gigantic Dream by Dr. Nicole Julia

This picture book follows Gary the giraffe as he is fitted for and received his very own wheelchair. Gary is excited about all the things he can now do in his wheelchair.

This adorably illustrated picture book does a nice job of explaining the process of getting a wheelchair, which they- and I must confess I- probably have not thought about much. I think this is very helpful to teach children empathy and to help them understand others who are different from them, better.

Although this is the first in a series, this is the only one I recommend, although the other ones could certainly be used with some simple editing of the text.
