Summary

This resource is to be used alongside your family Bible reading time. For every chapter in the Bible, there is a short reflection with major takeaways, sometimes including a question or two.

Mom Thoughts

While there are many family Scripture reading resources, there are few or none (to my knowledge) that cover all of scripture. You can find reading plans for reading all the way through the Bible together, but to be able to have a resource that helps families- no matter what book they are reading- is a gift.

Much of the text in this guide is taken from The Reformation Heritage KJV Study Bible, which is intended for older readers, so do know that some of the vocabulary in this resource may need more unpacking for younger children.

From the reflection for Exodus Chapter 36, “The people’s generosity is commendable in itself, for they gave more than enough (v.5). it is a model to us fo cheerful giving. However, their faith in the Lord and obedience to His moral laws were sadly lacking (chs. 14-16; 32; Num, 11; 14). We dare not rest our confidence in external duties such as giving money to church or attending public worship, for these can be done for hypocritical reasons.”

From the reflection for Psalm 147, “If the Lord has blessed us, praise is the most suitable response, and the more blessed we feel, the more our hearts will well up with gratitude and the more we will want to find went in greater praise.”

This could absolutely be used with younger children, but repeating things in age-appropriate terms will likely be necessary for many children. This might lend itself better to be used with children 7 and above. The fact that it’s published by Reformation Heritage Books probably gives you a good idea of the theological standings, but for those wondering about eschatology, they do a good job of highlighting the truths in Revelation upon which all believers can agree, but although they don’t use theological terms, they do lean away from post-millennialism.

From the reflection for Revelation chapter 20, “Christians should not expect the nations to get better and better, until Christ’s coming scarcely causes a ripple in the pool of an already good world. Christ’s return will be a cataclysmic reversal of all this world has known. Revelation warns that at the end of the age lawlessness and rebellion against God will grow to towering heights.” There is also no mentio no mention of a rapture in the reflection of Matthew 24. Overall, this is a fantastic resource for families to use alongside their Bible reading time and I highly recommend it!
