Mom Thoughts

Eric Liddell’s life inspired many books, a movie, and now a graphic novel. Eric’s life of sacrifice for the Lord is a fantastic choice for young readers, and I am thrilled to have it told in another format. It’s an approachable retelling, not visually depicting anything that might disturb younger readers, while at the same time sharing the hard parts of Eric’s story. I appreciate how the author chose to focus most of the story on Eric’s service in China and his love for the Lord, as opposed to his athletic career. It is a very brief title, as I read it from cover to cover in about 15 minutes but well told and engaging. I enjoy the semi-realistic/semi-cartoon style of the illustrator, although I do wish they had chosen color illustrations as opposed to gray scale. Overall, this is a simple, straightforward retelling of Eric Liddell’s life that I highly recommend for your young reader.
