Summary

Emily was a happy little girl who had a happy little life. Then, her mom died. Nothing felt the same. Everything felt wrong. No matter what she did, it didn’t feel right. Her emotions began to boil up inside of her until one night she yelled, “Where is God?! Why has this happened to me?!” Emily’s dad came into her room and opened up the Bible. There Emily saw a cross like the one Jesus died on- for her. Emily’s dad tells her that if God lost someone He loved, then He knows just how Emily feels. Emily also saw the Jesus is now alive again, and so her mom is also. Emily’s dad gives her a list of scripture they will memorize together to help them know where God is, and she kept these truths in her heart.

Mom Thoughts

This is a beautifully bound and illustrated book that has been thoughtfully put together to help children process the loss of a loved one. I really love at the end of the book when the author lists many scripture references for children to hide in their hearts. This list could be a very helpful thing for a hurting child wondering “Where is God?” If you wanted to push the theology, you could argue that God didn’t “lose” His son, but rather that He had to endure His death. I think this is very minor and that this resource could prove to be very helpful for a hurting child.
