Summary
Duck’s Vacation is a hilarious, silly, picture book. It is similar in theme to “The Monster at the End of this Book” in that Duck realizes you are turning pages and wants you- the reader- to stop. He wants to enjoy his beach vacation on beautiful page 1, but you keep bothering him with page turns. Usually the page turns bring unwanted things for duck: a crab pinching his foot, crowds of people, rain, snow, and a bird leaving a dropping on his head. Finally after pirates arrive, Duck calls it quits and leaves the book. You- the reader- are left with the pirates, until you abruptly close the book on them.
Mom Thoughts
This is a great bedtime read. There are lots of opportunities for funny inflection and interaction as your kids get to turn the pages, despite Duck’s pleadings otherwise. The pictures are cartoon like and colorful. Every page is meant to inspire smiles and giggles. Much to the delight of your children, Duck just never quite gets the vacation he desires!
