This reference/picture book features one-page biographies of 50 “Daring Women of God.” Selections are as followed: Cornelia “Corrie” ten Boom, Pandita Ramabai, Elizabeth Greene, Ruby Bridges Hall, Hannah More, Gabrielle “Gabby” Douglas, Amy Carmichael, Sabina Wurmbrand, Harriet Ross Tubman, Lydia Darragh, Ni Kwei-Tseng Soong, Phillis Wheatley, Catherine Booth, Tamika Catchings Smith, Mahalia Jackson, Fanny Crosby, Catherine of Siena, Dorothy Day, Josephine Butler, Rosa Parks, Anne Bradstreet, Bethany Hamilton, Christine Caine, Amanda Smith, Jane Austen, Jeanette Li, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Florence Nightingale, Jennifer Wiseman, Pocahontas, Joni Eareckson Tada, Madeleine L’Engle, Narcissa Whitman, Nancy Pearcey, Ida Lewis, Condoleezza Rice, Betty Olsen, Mother Teresa, Clara Barton, Susan B. There are other books on the market that are set up like this book, but this is the Christain publisher’s response. I like how these are very brief overviews of the women’s lives, giving you the big-picture idea. The full-page illustrations are also lovely.

There are many amazing, Godly women in this book, but there are a few that make me scratch my head, and some which I would skip entirely (ie: Christine Caine). While all of these women may have claimed (or do claim) the Christian faith, I struggle to see all of the selections as “Daring Women of God.” If used with discernment, this could still be a helpful resource for your family to learn about a wide demographic of Christian women and a great springboard to get your children’s interests peaked in real-life heroes.
