Angels on Your Side: When You Are Feeling Scared by Marty Machowski

This picture book comes with two sets of 3D glasses that will make many of the illustrations pop. The premise is that Logan, a young boy, is scared of the storm outside. His grandpa comforts him by answering his many questions about angels and retelling stories from Scripture where angels are involved.

This inventive picture book is an exciting and Biblical introduction to angels. In classic Marty Machowski style, the Gospel is woven into the story beautifully. Obviously, there are many depictions of angels, and they are anything but traditional- white robe and wings- looking. In fact, they look rather futuristic, which may resonate with some children and parents, and not with others. Because of this style, boys may be more drawn to this book, but it’s certainly interactive and interesting for girls as well.

While the 3D glasses may make this seem like more of a gimmick, the text is solid and well-written. This would be a fantastic gift for a child ages 6-10!

Do note that it is implied that all believers have guardian angels. It reads, “God assigns angels to guard over each of his children.” It notes Matthew 18:10 as a Scriptural support.
