Mom Thoughts

This incredibly interesting resource book is put together in a visually appealing way with lots of up-close animal photographs and blurbs of interesting information. If your child likes facts books, animals, or science, this is a fantastic resource. It’s not likely something you would sit down and read in one sitting, but more likely one that will be picked up to be combed through again and again. While there are a few things below of which to be aware, overall, this is a wonderful resource for families.

Things to Note:

When speaking of God showing favor to Noah, it reads, “But God noticed Noah doing what was right, so he made a rescue plan to save Noah’s family and two of every animal from the consequences of other people’s sin.” This phrasing is a bit odd, sounding like Noah was saved because of his goodness and that Noah’s family didn’t have sin from which to be saved.

John the Baptist is referred to as the “Crazy Cousin.”

In explaining the deeper meaning of The Prodigal Son, the text reads, “Jesus told this parable to explain that God loves us like the father in the story. God never stops loving us.” I think this is a bit of an oversimplification of the deeper meaning of this parable, but I understand the goal of this book isn’t expository teaching.

This book takes the stance that the eye of a needle wasn’t literal, but the narrow opening in a city gate.

When explaining in Acts 10 how Peter proclaims that God doesn’t show partiality, the text reads, “Peter came to realise that ‘God treats everyone the same.'” While I understand what the author meant, this phrase might prove confusing to children without further explanation.
