Summary
Mrs. Wednesday has died and her young next-door neighbor is dealing with grief and loss. She recounts things about Mrs. Wednesday and her mother tells her that when Mr. Wednesday died, Mrs. Wednesday started keeping a small blue bottle to remind her that God counts every tear.
Mom Thoughts
Processing through and dealing with grief and loss can be very difficult for children. I love how this book points to Psalm 56:8 to paint a very real visual of God collecting our tears in a bottle to let children know that God is there in our suffering and He sees us. I would have liked to see more hope portrayed at the end of the book since we assume Mrs. Wednesday loved the Lord from the context.
Regardless though, this could be a helpful book in starting conversations with your child about loss and comforting them along the way. The lovely illustrations also show diversity in the characters portrayed.
