Who Am I And Why Do I Matter? By Chris Morphew

This short apologetic book tackles the huge but basic question: who am I, and why do I matter? There are ten chapters that sequentially build a case for his solution to this question. The chapter titles are:

1. Searching for the real you
2. How do I know I matter?
3. Why can’t I just listen to myself?
4. Why can’t I just listen to my friends?
5. How can I find real freedom?
6. Who does God say I am?
7. What about all the ways I mess up?
8. What difference does God make?
9. Following the way of Jesus
10. Resting in the love of Jesus

Another title in the “Big Questions” series addresses something with which so many children (and adults) struggle. As the rest of the series, Morphew doesn’t assume the reader is a Christian or even looking at the world through a Biblical lens. He builds his case logically from the ground up and ultimately points to the gospel as the answer to the question. I appreciated the examples used to create a clear argument not built on feelings but rather on logic and ultimately, Scripture. This is a wonderful introductory title for children who are ready to grapple with bigger questions of existence, morality, and purpose.

Language:
One use of “dumb” concerning choices

Other Things to Know:
The author claims that Jesus became known as a “party animal” based on Matthew 11:19.
It comes across as jest, but in the chapter on following Jesus Morphew says, “…and so far, no voices from the clouds or whatever.”
There is one instance of The Message being used when quoting Scripture.
