The Answers Book for Kids Series by Ken Ham & Bodie Hodge

In this eight-book series, kids get answers to some of the biggest questions they have about the bible through scriptural support and scientific evidence. Some of the topics covered are creation, geography, science, sin, the bible, and salvation with each book of the series organized by theme. Questions include, “When did time begin?”, “Why did Satan lie to Eve?”, and “How big is our galaxy?”. Each question is answered by the authors in a way that points readers to scripture as evidence and how to build a biblical worldview.

Teaching younger children about apologetics can feel overwhelming at times. This series is a succinct way to find reliable answers to many popular questions about God, Jesus, Earth, science, and scripture. While it would be impossible to cover every question about these issues in one series, this set does manage to address many different facets of thoughts and questions kids have about the world around them. The series contains 8 books with 20-22 questions and answers in each book. The topics covered in each volume are as follows:

Volume 1: Creation and the Fall

Volume 2: Dinosaurs and the Flood of Noah

Volume 3: God and the Bible

Volume 4: Sin Salvation, and the Christian Life

Volume 5: Space and Astronomy

Volume 6: Babel and the Ice Age

Volume 7: Evolution and “Millions of Years”

Volume 8: Satan and Angels

Each question is given a 2-4 sentence answer to try that is supported by scripture. At the end of each question are several verses to look up for your own reference. Young readers also get to see the name, age, and location of each kid that submitted a question. I think this can be helpful for young readers to see that other kids their age also have big questions and that it is a good thing to seek answers to what they are curious about.

I recommend looking up all Scriptures in a physical Bible with young readers so they can learn how to navigate their own Bibles and so that each Scripture can be read fully in context. I believe this creates a wider understanding of the topic being discussed in the book and helps build biblical literacy skills in kids as they grow up. I think it is also important for parents to be present when reading the books because references are made to Revelation and other prophecies and these topics may be new or confusing to younger kids.

Some answers given are vague in their response and may not be sufficient for older readers. Each parent should adjust to their own child’s understanding of the content.

This series is a good starting point for deeper discussion between parents and kids about God’s word and will surely lead to new and exciting questions to be explored together.

Other Things to Know:

These books present a young earth view with a literal 6-day creation timeline within 24-hour segments and God resting on the 7th day. The books also adhere to a 6,000-year-old earth that is accounted for through the genealogies presented in the Old Testament.

Some imagery in the books may be upsetting for younger readers, especially in Volume 8: Satan and Demons where there is a fiery dragon and a large serpent with red eyes.

These books are part of the apologetics organization, Answers in Genesis, which provides resources through videos, books, speaking events, homeschool curriculum, and more. There are additional online worksheets that coincide with this series as well as an elementary homeschool workbook for more in depth study.
