Summary

Dinosaurs for Kids is quite unique! It is written as a historical narrative using the Bible as the framework with a Young Earth lens. The book is segmented into 7 historical periods pertaining to dinosaurs: Formed, Fearless, Fallen, Flood, Faded, Found, and Fiction. Each page has the main text featured and off to the sides has “Four Fast Facts.” These are facts about dinosaurs and fossils. The bottom of most pages typically contain a text blurb with specific dinosaur information. Illustrations are rich throughout and eye catching for young readers. Though it is not marketed as an apologetics book, it offers the reader a foundation in Genesis history, how dinosaurs interacted with humans, the Ice Age, and how evolution is incompatible with the Bible.

Mom Thoughts

This is an incredible resource for young readers, particularly those with a love of dinosaurs. It is thoughtfully crafted, contains a plethora of dinosaur information, all while maintaining a strong, Biblical focus. Sometimes, the main text was hard for my son to focus on with all the text blurbs off to the side, so it worked better as a read-aloud for our first read. One question skeptics raise is how dinosaurs, the Genesis creation account, and humans could have possibly interacted, and this is one of the only resources I have found for kids that speak to that question with thorough reasoning. To that end, I use it as an ontology resource in apologetics. I also appreciate how the author had kids push back when they find fiction in a museum or class. I didn’t particularly enjoy the line of push back, “well, were you there? How do you know?” The author then points to God who was there giving us his Word (which I love), but I wanted the line of questioning to go a little deeper, especially at this reading age level. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful book for a dinosaur loving family!
