Summary
Frog and Toad are neighbors and best friends. They do most things together and have some silly adventures.
Mom Thoughts
This modern classic early reader series follows two childish amphibian friends with big hearts. I’ll be honest, I did not love this series initially and didn’t use it with my own children. However, on reexamination, I do think there are several stories that are lovely, silly, and lighthearted. While I do not blame a parent for choosing not to use these, they may be loved by some for the outlandish and hilarious behaviors all wrapped up in Toad and Frog’s sweet friendship. My favorite stories are “The Letter” and “The Corner.”
There are four volumes (which can be read in any order):
Frog and Toad are Friends
Frog and Toad Together
Days with Frog and Toad
Frog and Toad All Year
Language:Â
The story “The Dream” has one use of “shut up.”
There is one instance of “dumb.”
Other Things to Know:
The story “Shivers,” is a ghost story about a giant frog who eats frog children.
Some of the choices made are outlandish, like Toad banging his head against the wall to think of a story.
