Mom Thoughts
This first chapter book series is filled with loveable characters and sweet stories. It’s heavily illustrated with large print so while it feels like a chapter book, the chapters themselves don’t become overwhelming for a newly independent reader. There is a fairly strong moral compass throughout as most times a character does or says something unkind, the behavior is corrected. While I wouldn’t say these are books of enduring literary merit, it’s a nice series. The stories themselves are quite lighthearted and a perfect fit for a young animal lover.
Books in the series read for this review:
Home is Where the Heart Is
Raised in a Barn
Herd You Loud and Clear
Fireworks Night
The Swimming Hole
Life is Good
Language:
The occasional “gosh” and “darn”
Sheep are called lazy
There is some slight teasing throughout by the “mean” cats and few others
Questionable Behaviors:
There is mention of children telling ghost stories
Bo laughs when the cats are trying to dump punch on him but accidently fall in instead
An eye roll is mentioned
Other Things to Know:
Dogs “mark” the trees and the picture shows their legs lifted
Bo says he is lucky
Bo refers to his owners as human “mom, dad, brother, and sister”
