Summary
This fully illustrated picture book retells the Christmas story, beginning with Gabriel’s visit to Mary through their escape to Egypt. It ends, however, with Christ’s death and resurrection and points to his future return.
Mom Thoughts
With so many picture book retellings of Christmas, what makes this one different? There are two things that set this book apart:
- There are no depictions of Christ. There is a very small depiction of his feet and legs on one page, but otherwise, he is not shown in any of the illustrations.
- As the summary explains, the story doesn’t end with the Christmas events, but points to Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, as well as his future return.
For those that consider depictions of Christ a second commandment violation, this could be a great choice. Do be aware that there are depictions of angels.
