Summary

Tully is a dog. Tully loves Christmas and wants to help his owners with all the Christmas things; however, they keep saying, “No, Tully. You will make a mess.” Then, Tully accidently does make a mess–of the Christmas tree!  His owners are reminded that the first Christmas was also messy and had unexpected turns. While Tully has to go in his crate while they clean up, his owners are also reminded that they need Jesus to clean up the mess we make.

Mom Thoughts

This is a nice change of pace for a Christmas picture book that keep Christ at the center. Overall, it’s a cute story that feels “Christmas-y” but points to Christ as the reason for Christmas. There is also a small nod to the gospel.

“The tree isn’t perfect anymore. And we aren’t perfect either. We all do things that get messed up, and that is why Jesus came. We all need Jesus to clean up the mess we’ve made.”

While not a crystal-clear gospel presentation, I do think this is a good option for children 8 and under to enjoy a cute story and be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. My 8-year-old really enjoyed reading this one himself as Tully happens to look a bit like our dog. Your little dog lover might enjoy it too!

Note: There are depictions of Jesus.
