Mom Thoughts
These are wonderful introductory biographies for children. While the target age is 6-8, I think they could be read with younger children. The illustrations are realistic with an endearing softness that will draw in both your children and you. These retellings don’t shy away from the difficult things that happened in their lives, but they do so in an age-appropriate way.
For example, from the boo on Bonhoeffer:
“Sadly, Hitler was elected as the leader of Germany, and his new government- called the Nazis- made hundreds of unfair laws. Right away, he declared that Nazis could spy on Germans by reading their mail, listening to their phone conversations, and searching their homes. People were put in prison if they were caught trying to stop the Nazis. This oppression lasted twelve years. Another law forced Jewish people to sew a special yellow star on their clothes, and the Nazis began putting them in horrible prisons.”
Well-crafted and thoughtfully composed, I highly recommend this series for your family.
