The Illustrated Westminster Shorter Catechism by Andrew Green, Sasko Nezamutdinov, and Ben Preston

This is simply the Westminster Shorter Catechism but fully illustrated. There are a few, very minor updated words- for example, changing the word “principally” to “firstly.”

The Westminster Shorter Catechism has been used by Christians for almost 400 years as a summary and teaching tool of Christian doctrine. This new edition was made specifically with families in mind, to help children learn and memorize this valuable piece of history.

If you are unfamiliar with the Westminster Shorter Catechism, it is organized in a question-and-answer format, with each question numbered for easy reference. The most well-known question/answer is the first: Q: What is man’s foremost purpose in life? A: Man’s foremost purpose in life is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

Also, if you are unfamiliar, the WSC takes a firm stand on the Sabbath as well as Baptism. Concerning the Sabbath, “From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, God appointed the seventh day of the week to be the weekly Sabbath. From then to the end of the world the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath.”

Concerning baptism, “Baptism is not for anyone outside of the visible Church until they profess their faith in Christ and obedience to Him. Yet infant children of members of the visible Church are to be baptized.” If you want to read the WSC in its entirety, click HERE.

The illustrations are stunning with a rather modern flair, but there are a few that may be a little intense for younger children. (See photo for one example.) There are no depictions of Christ in the illustrations. There is a depiction of Christ’s birth, and while he is not visible, the Wisemen are present. Overall, this is very well done and could be a fantastic tool for your family.
