Summary
This picture book tells the story of God’s glory and love and our sin. Our sin separates us from God because He is so good. So what did God do? He gave us Jesus. Jesus gave us a gift better than any other gift ever: Jesus died and rose again to take away all our sins and make us His forever friends. How do we receive this great gift? By believing.
Mom Thoughts
Sometimes you get a book with outstanding illustrations; sometimes you get one with incredible text. Rare are the books that combine both of these assets, but this lovely book is one of them! The illustrations are reminiscent of Don Clark’s visual masterpiece, The Biggest Story, but Rommel Ruiz’s style has a bit more softness, especially dealing with people. It’s truly stunning. There is so much that the illustrations add to the story. Take time to explore every one.
The text is simple, but overflowing with truth. I couldn’t believe the incredibly understandable description of a huge theological idea on the first page! The author communicates in language children will understand without cheapening anything. Yes, it’s a simplified version of the salvation story, but very done well.
