Summary

Sydney the skunk and Taylor the hedgehog live underneath Miss Nancy’s shed. Taylor decides he wants to explore beyond their burrow and see the whole wide world. Although Sydney is happy to stay home, he agrees to go on an adventure with his friend. They adventure far beyond anywhere they have been before dealing with predators, hunger, and lots of walking. They see Miss Nancy’s car in the meadow,  sneak inside, and catch a ride home. They are both happy to be back but Taylor dreams of their next adventure.

Mom Thoughts

This sweet beginner’s chapter book has so much charm! The illustrations are detailed, whimsical, and colorful. After reading it once aloud with my three-year-old, we went back just to explore the pictures visually. The chapters are very brief and the pages contain few words and an abundance of pictures. If you have a newly independent reader, this is an excellent choice with no language issues or questionable behaviors. It is also a good choice for especially young readers, reading at an early age. Sydney the skunk does spray a dog at one point. This adorable book would appeal to both boys and girls!
